In mid-February , 1916, 12th Division returned to the area of the Hohenzollern Redoubt that they had left in November 1915 after the Battle of Loos. On 3rd April, 1916, 8th Royal Fusiliers of 36 Brigade moved into the front line in the Quarry sector where they stayed for 4 days. At 5.30pm on 6th April they blew 2 mines in front of their trenches and in the ensuing battle to take control of the newly formed craters, 2 men were killed, one of them being William Edwards.
